imac Christmas Commercial

I created this commercial mostly as a test of Maxwell Render's
(www.maxwellrender.com) Multilight ability. The imacs were modeled in
Maya 8.5 and rendered with Maxwell Render. Each shot or camera angle
is really only one rendered frame. Each frame took around 8 hours to
render on a quad core Mac Pro. After a frame is rendered, the lights
in the scene can be manipulated and animated in real time - in this case animated to the music.

Variation

This is a variation on the loft scene. I think the white brick is less busy than the previous material.

Here is my latest test render in Maxwell Render. The scene is based on the image created by Aaron Coon, who was kind enough to supply me with the model of the couch. I modeled everything else in Maya 8.5. The scene is lit only by Maxwell's physical sun. Render Time was around 30 min.
Note: The image is based on imagery and composition created by Aaron Coon, However the textures and shaders are original or from the Maxwell Shader Library.

This is a photo I took of the old Bonneville Hotel in Downtown Idaho Falls. The place holds great memories for me... After the hotel closed down their remained an excellent Chinese restaurant in the lobby for some time. I recall eating their on special occasions with my folks. The highlight was always getting a few of their "white rabbit" candies after the meal. The restaurant has since closed. What a shame.

I took this picture a few months ago while camping in Island Park. The place where we were had few points of interest except the lake my Father-in-law likes to fish at and some four wheeler trails that wind around these odd rock piles. I thought it was interesting that even the most ordinary or boring locations or subjects can sometimes make for great photographs. I especially enjoy the texture of the mud puddle and of the rocks.

In the Begining

I'm fascinated by all things light. How to capture it, how to re-create it, how to save it and share it in a way that others may be fascinated by it as well. As such I've decided to start this blog documenting my explorations of one of the least understood phenomenon in our universe... light.

Main interests/topics I will discuss in this blog are:

1. Photography
2. Computer Graphics / 3D Rendering / Animation
3. Graphic design and the fine arts.

These interests shall not be confused with my main priorities which are:

1. My Family
2. My Faith
3. Education

The image is a test from the Maxwell Render Engine. I installed Maxwell a few days ago and have been learning how this un-biased render engine works. Learn more about Maxwell here:

Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light?
